Asset tagging · RFID

Read tags without line of sight, even in bulk.

Read tags at a distance and without line of sight, many at once. Tags can be embedded or swaged into equipment to survive harsh conditions.

RFID tags can be read at a distance and without line of sight, and many can be read at once, which suits harsh environments and bulk inventory checks.

Tags can be embedded or swaged into equipment so they survive conditions that would destroy a printed label. RFID uses a compatible reader, so it suits firms wanting speed and durability across demanding assets.

How it works

RFID tags on CertFlow.

An RFID tag is read by radio rather than by camera, so it does not need line of sight and can be read at a distance, from a few centimetres to many metres depending on the tag and reader. A compatible reader can identify many tags in a single pass, which makes bulk checks across a store, rack or yard far quicker than reading items one by one.

Tags can be ruggedised, mounted on metal, or swaged and moulded directly into equipment, so identification survives the heat, water, abrasion and impact that would destroy a printed label. For areas with an explosive atmosphere, ATEX-certified tags are available so identification can extend into hazardous zones.

RFID uses dedicated reader hardware rather than a phone camera, so it suits firms that want speed and durability across demanding or high-volume assets. Each read opens or updates the asset in CertFlow exactly as a scan or tap would.

Where it fits

Use cases.

Harsh or dirty environments

Where printed labels degrade, tags can be embedded into the asset to survive the conditions.

Lifting gear

On chains, slings and accessories, tags can be swaged or moulded in so identification lasts.

Bulk reads

Scan many assets at once rather than one by one, which speeds up inventory checks.

No line of sight needed

Read tags through bags, boxes or awkward positions, without having to see the tag.

Higher-value or safety-critical assets

Where durable, tamper-resistant identification matters most.

Attachment types

How RFID tags are fixed to the asset.

Swaged or moulded-in tags

Tags built into lifting accessories such as chains and slings.

Embedded and on-metal tags

Hardened tags that survive harsh, dirty environments and read on metal.

Cable-tie and bolt-on tags

Rugged tags fixed to equipment that cannot take a printed label.

Across every discipline

RFID tags for the assets you inspect.

RFID identification suits demanding assets across the disciplines, where tags can be embedded or swaged into equipment and read at a distance, even in bulk. It is built for harsh conditions and high asset volumes.

Electrical

Distribution boards, consumer units, fixed wiring and portable appliances

Fix rugged RFID tags to switchgear, panels and fixed plant so they can be read at a distance and in bulk during a site sweep, without opening enclosures or hunting for a faded label. On metal-clad equipment, on-metal tags read reliably where a printed code would be hard to scan.

Lifting Equipment

Cranes, hoists, chains, slings, shackles and lifting accessories

Tags can be swaged, moulded or sealed into chains, slings, shackles and below-the-hook accessories, so identification survives the environment that destroys printed marks and keeps each item traceable. A whole rack or container of accessories can be read in one pass, confirming each item’s six or twelve-monthly examination is current without handling every one.

Work Equipment

Machinery, power tools, ladders, MEWPs and access equipment

Rugged, on-metal RFID tags suit workshop and yard equipment, read in bulk during a depot check and surviving the conditions that wear a label off a hard-used tool or machine.

Pressure Systems

Air receivers, pressure vessels, boilers and pressure pipework

On-metal and ATEX-certified RFID tags suit pressure vessels and process pipework in plant rooms and hazardous areas, reading reliably on steel and in conditions where a printed label would not last.

Fire Safety

Extinguishers, alarm panels, emergency lighting and fire doors

RFID lets an inspector read extinguishers and fire assets along a corridor or across a floor quickly, without stopping to line up each one, which speeds routine checks across large or multi-site estates while keeping every record against its asset.

Gas Safety

Boilers, gas appliances, pipework and flues

ATEX-certified RFID tags suit gas plant and pipework in areas where ignition sources must be controlled, and on-metal tags read reliably in boiler rooms and risers where labels degrade.

HVAC & Refrigeration

Air-conditioning units, refrigeration and heat pumps

Rugged on-metal RFID tags suit external and plant-room units exposed to weather and vibration, read at a distance across a roof or plant deck so a refrigerant inventory can be checked quickly.

Water & Legionella

Sentinel outlets, TMVs, tanks and calorifiers

RFID suits plant rooms and tank farms where tags must survive damp and read on metal, and lets larger systems be swept across many outlets and fittings without handling each one.

Waste Management

Skips, hazardous-waste containers and storage points

Rugged RFID tags survive on skips and containers in yards and on sites, and can be read in bulk during a movement or audit so the duty-of-care chain is confirmed quickly.

Hazardous Substances

Local exhaust ventilation (LEV) and extraction equipment

ATEX-certified and on-metal RFID tags suit LEV and process equipment in dusty or potentially explosive areas where labels degrade, and read at a distance across a workshop.

RAMS

The plant and equipment your method statements cover

RFID lets a site check confirm that the plant and equipment brought on for a task carry current inspections, read in bulk at the gate or compound rather than item by item.

General Health & Safety

The assets your inspections and audits cover

RFID lets a workplace inspection or audit sweep a large area quickly, confirming the assets present and their inspection status without handling each one.

Competency & Training

Equipment that requires a competent, qualified operator

RFID lets a depot or store confirm at a glance which competence-controlled assets are present and accounted for, and which are due an inspection.

HR & People Compliance

Issued equipment and PPE assigned to people

RFID lets a store check issued equipment and PPE in and out in bulk, keeping a fast, accurate record of what is held and what is due back.

One record, any tag

QR, NFC and RFID all open the same CertFlow record, and many firms use more than one across a site. See the full spectrum and how to choose, or read about the other options.
