What is F-Gas Regulation?

F-Gas Regulation stands for the Regulation on fluorinated greenhouse gases.

Rules governing fluorinated greenhouse gases, requiring leak checks and record-keeping for refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.

The F-Gas Regulation governs fluorinated greenhouse gases used as refrigerants in refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat-pump equipment. Operators must prevent leaks, carry out regular leak checks based on the CO2-equivalent charge of each system, and keep records of the refrigerant and the work carried out.

Work on F-Gas systems must be done by certified personnel, and refrigerant must be recovered for recycling, reclamation or destruction at the end of a system life.

Questions

F-Gas Regulation, answered.

What is the F-Gas Regulation?

A regulation controlling fluorinated greenhouse gases, requiring leak prevention, regular leak checks and record-keeping for refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment.

How often are F-Gas leak checks required?

Frequency depends on the CO2-equivalent charge: broadly at least every 12 months for systems of 5 tonnes CO2e or more, more often for larger charges, with fixed leak detection reducing the frequency.

Who can work on F-Gas systems?

Only certified personnel, who must also ensure refrigerant is recovered for recycling, reclamation or destruction at end of life.
