HASAWA is the primary piece of UK health and safety legislation. It places a general duty on employers to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare of employees and others affected by their work.

The Act is supported by regulations such as the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, which set out how the duties are met through risk assessment and safe systems of work.
